Removal of devitalisation measures for fennel and celery seeds for human consumption

Effective from 19 November 2021

The purpose of this notification is to advise stakeholders of upcoming changes to remove devitalisation measures for fennel and celery seeds for human consumption.

Who does this affect?
Importers and brokers of fennel and celery seeds for human consumption and departmental staff.

What is changing?
On December 1 2021,

  • Moist heat treatment, gamma irradiation or germination testing will be removed from the import requirements for fennel and celery seeds for human consumption.
  • ISTA purity testing (onshore or offshore) will be resumed to address the contamination risk of imported fennel and celery seed consignments.

Note: An import permit will still be required.
