Inclusion of Australian ISTA approved laboratories list within BICON

Effective from 8 December 2021

The purpose of this notice is to advise stakeholders that the list of International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) approved laboratories in Australia that are accredited by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) to undertake taxonomic identification of contaminant seeds detected on imported horticultural fresh produce or fresh cut flowers and foliage, is now published and available within BICON.

The ISTA laboratories are listed in the appendices section of the BICON case.

The listed ISTA laboratories are approved by the department to perform taxonomic identification of contaminant seeds detected on imported consignments, as well as purity and germination analysis on seeds imported for sowing and consumption.

Please refer to the list of department approved seed testing laboratories in Australia for the contact information for the laboratories.

Who does this alert affect:
Importers (and their customs brokers) of seeds sent for taxonomic identification at an ISTA approved laboratory, and department staff.
