This alert is to notify importers and departmental staff of the expansion to the country list for sudden oak death in nursery stock (which includes unrooted cuttings, tissue culture, rooted plants without foliage).

Following reports on the detections of sudden oak death (Phytophthora ramorum) in Argentina and Japan, these countries have been added as host countries for Phytophthora ramorum and/or other Phytophthora complex species for imported nursery stock.

Phytophthora ramorum and related members of the Phytophthora complex (P. kernoviae, P. nemorosa and P. pseudosyringae) are serious exotic plant pathogens affecting a range of plant genera in a number of regions throughout the world.

Effective immediately, any nursery stock imports from Argentina and Japan that are hosts of sudden oak death will be required to undergo measures for this pathogen.

These measures include growth and disease screening/testing at the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment post entry quarantine facility, Mickleham, VIC.

Import Permits:
Affected import permits will be amended to include the additional measures.

Importers of nursery stock, customs brokers and departmental staff.
