Application forms for laboratory goods and human tissues

Effective from 9 December 2020

Importers are advised that import permit application forms for laboratory goods have been updated.

Background:
For goods intended to be imported for laboratory use, the department has reviewed the process for applying for a permit and the application forms on BICON.

The department has enhanced the application forms to improve the information collected in support of the permit application and assessment process. This change will benefit importers and biosecurity officers assessing goods for import. The new questions in these application forms aim to improve our understanding of goods being imported, particularly with regards to how they will be used in Australia, and specifically elicit information that will assist in managing biosecurity risks.

Providing as much detail as possible at this stage of the application process will also reduce the number of questions needed to be asked during assessment, thereby decreasing the time for a permit to be issued.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of laboratory goods
