Revised import conditions for Pea seed for sowing from USA permitted states (Idaho and Washington)

Effective from 17 December 2020

The purpose of this notification is to advise stakeholders of revised import conditions for pea seed for sowing grown in the permitted states of Idaho and Washington, in the United States of America.

What are the revised import conditions?

Pea seed grown in Idaho and Washington, United States of America, will no longer require testing by the ELISA technique for pea seed-borne mosaic virus (PSbMV).

A new phytosanitary certificate additional declaration will be required stating "Seed was grown and harvested in [insert Idaho or Washington], United States of America only."

Background:

The ELISA test for pea seed-borne mosaic virus will no longer be required as the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) has been able to determine that the strains of pea seed-borne mosaic virus present on pea seed are no longer a quarantine pest for Australia. In accordance with ISPM 5, the department will be removing the requirement that pea seed for sowing is tested for pea seed-borne mosaic virus using the ELISA method.
