Fresh strawberries from Japan

Effective from 28 August 2020

Import conditions have been published on BICON for the importation of fresh strawberries from Japan.
The change has risen following the publication of the Final report for the review of the biosecurity import requirements for fresh strawberry fruit from Japan.

Please note: The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment will require information from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries prior to approving an import permit application. Importers should contact the department on 1800 900 090 or imports@agriculture.gov.au prior to applying for an import permit to confirm a permit can be issued.

Who does this notice affect:

  • Importers, growers and suppliers of strawberries grown in Japan.

  • The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Japan.

  • Assessment Services Group and Inspections Group.

Further information:
Prior to the importation of goods into Australia, a valid import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is required.

An import permit may be obtained by submitting an import permit application to the department (if viewed online, use the 'Apply Now' button at the bottom of the BICON case). Please contact Plant Import Operations on 1800 900 090 or email imports@agriculture.gov.au.
