Mandatory pre-shipment methyl bromide fumigation for fresh leaves and fresh taro from Fiji

Effective from 15 January 2021

Please note that due to unprecedented circumstances, the date of implementation for these conditions has been extended from 18 January 2021 to 1 February 2021.

Fresh leaves and fresh taro for human consumption from Fiji certified for export on or after 1 February 2021, will require mandatory pre-shipment methyl bromide fumigation. The goods will require evidence on accompanying phytosanitary certificates that they have been fumigated at an approved schedule.

The following commodities from Fiji are subject to mandatory pre-shipment methyl bromide fumigation:

Fresh mustard stick, betel leaves and paan leaves (Piper betel) for human consumption:

  • Betel leaves
  • Paan leaves

Fresh leaves for human consumption:

  • Bael leaves
  • Cassava leaves
  • Amaranth leaves
  • Drumstick leaves
  • Island cabbage
  • Pandanus leaves
  • Roselle leaves
  • Taro leaves

Fresh root vegetables for human consumption:

  • White taro
  • Giant taro
