Update to revised import conditions for chicken meat, chicken meat products & eggs from New Zealand

Effective from 4 October 2019

After notification from New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries of the detection of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) in New Zealand, permits for chicken meat and chicken meat products from New Zealand were suspended from 18 September 2019.

However, if your product is heat treated to reach a minimum core temperature of 80°C for at least 125 minutes (or an equivalent heat treatment approved by the department) you can apply through BICON to have your permit varied.

Additionally, products manufactured before 27 May 2019 may be permitted to be imported to Australia. Contact imports@agriculture.gov.au for information.

Egg and egg products that do not contain shell can continue to be imported from New Zealand.
