Commencement of Burnt Pine Longicorn (BPL) flight season 2019

Effective from 7 November 2019

The Ministry of Primary Industries New Zealand (MPI NZ) has advised the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment that the 2019/20 flight season of the Burnt Pine Longicorn (BPL) beetle will commence for all New Zealand ports as of midnight (NZST) on Wednesday 6 November 2019.

Please note the following exemptions:

  • Consignments already loaded onto vessels before the commencement of the flight season are exempt from Arhopalus treatment requirements.

  • Consignments already loaded and sealed into containers before the commencement of the flight season are exempt from Arhopalus treatment requirements.

Note: Plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and veneer sheets imported as break-bulk from New Zealand during BPL season are not included on the table of highly processed wooden articles. Please see the conditions for BPL affected timber from New Zealand.
