Live dogs and cats from Malaysia February 2020

Effective from 7 February 2020

The importation of live dogs and cats from Malaysia is temporarily suspended.

The Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is unable to determine that the importation of dogs and cats from Malaysia is being managed as per Australia’s biosecurity requirements, including for the management of rabies virus risks. The department is working closely with the relevant authorities.

The suspension will remain in place until appropriate measures are introduced to manage the serious risks to human and animal health and Australia’s environment that are associated with this situation.

The department is unable to advise when the temporary suspension will be lifted, but will continue to provide updates on the temporary suspension of dog and cat imports from Malaysia, as well as alternative options for import of those dogs and cats, through the website: Bringing cats and dogs to Australia.
