Labelling requirements for molluscs (other than oysters and snails) for human consumption

Effective from 19 October 2019

As of the 1st of January 2020, the department will be updating BICON to clarify biosecurity labelling requirements on all imports of Molluscs imported under the following pathways:

  • Molluscs — Other than oysters and snails — Not for personal use— Frozen

  • Molluscs — Other than oysters and snails — Not for personal use— Fresh chilled without shell

  • Molluscs — Other than oysters and snails — Not for personal use— Other state

Each individual package (i.e. the smallest packaged unit) of all consignments must be labelled: ‘For human consumption only - not to be used as bait or feed for aquatic animals’.

All non-compliant product, including product that does not meet this labelling requirement, must be re-labelled, re-exported or destroyed.
