Validity periods for permits for live veterinary vaccines
Effective from 7 August 2019The Animal and Biological Imports Branch (ABIB) has changed the validity period for permits issued for live veterinary vaccines with a safe history of use in Australian animals. These permits, which previously had a validity period of 12 months, will now be issued with a 2 year validity period.
Who does this alert affect:
Importers of live veterinary vaccines.
Background:
The ABIB undertook a review of the permit validity period business policy for biological goods. This review took into consideration current commercial quality arrangements, underlying biosecurity risk levels for particular goods and functionality of the department’s BICON permit management system.
One of the recommendations of this review was to extend the permit validity period of live veterinary vaccines from 12 months to 2 years. This change, which aligns the validity period for both inactivated and live vaccines, recognises strict quality assurance and change management built into the veterinary vaccine manufacturing process.
