Timber products clarification of sulfuryl fluoride treatment requirements

Effective from 17 June 2019

The department has refined the wording for the import conditions and documentary evidence requirements for sulphuryl fluoride fumigation of timber goods. The refinements are not a change to the import conditions including treatment rate, duration or temperature requirements. The refinements are a more detailed description of the requirements that were introduced in September 2018 (IAN 105-2018). This change is effective immediately, resulting from clients’ misinterpretation of the conditions that were published in September 2018.

Goods already exported

Due to the governance surrounding the availability of sulphuryl fluoride, treatment providers should understand requirements to achieve a concentration-time product (CT) as per Sept 2018 changes. Therefore, as import conditions have not been altered, this change is effective immediately. For sulphuryl fluoride-treated timber goods already exported, an assessment of biosecurity risk will be determined onshore as per usual practices and, if required, the appropriate intervention will be applied to address any biosecurity risk.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of timber and timber products that choose to treat their consignments with sulphuryl fluoride fumigation and Assessment Services Group.
