Revised import conditions for Microalgae for human consumption

Effective from 19 June 2019

A review has been completed for the Microalgae for human consumption BICON case which will result in changes to import conditions.

The revised case is expected to be published in BICON 29 July 2019.

Who does this alert affect:
Importers of microalgae for human consumption use and human therapeutic use.

Background:
The case will be re-named Microalgae and will cover microalgae for human consumption use and human therapeutic use.
A standard permit will be introduced for Microalgae capsules and tablets. Standard permits are permits with established pre-assessed conditions.
A production questionnaire will be included in the ‘Other’ pathway to provide importers with the information needed to be provided with an application for a non-standard permit.
Importers will also be directed to alternative BICON cases that may be applicable to the goods they wish to import.
