Case: Temporary Importations Effective: 08 Feb 2018 to 16 Mar 2018
Case Description
This case describes the requirements for temporary importations.
The Australian Border Force (ABF) allow certain goods to be brought into Australian territory on a temporary basis for a period of up to 12 months without the payment of duty or taxes. These goods are referred to as temporary imports. Goods that qualify as temporary imports may be imported under carnet or security. Consumable items such as food are not granted approval for temporary importation by ABF.
Goods that are temporarily imported pose the same level of biosecurity risk as standard imports. Importers should refer to the individual BICON case to determine the specific biosecurity import conditions required for the goods that are being temporarily imported.
These import conditions outline the general Department of Agriculture and Water Resources import requirements for goods being temporarily imported under a carnet or security. Import conditions for specific items can be found in the relevant BICON case.
