batch

Batch definitions for uncooked prawns

For the purposes of testing prawns for disease agents of biosecurity concern, a batch may be defined by one of the following, but in any case, a batch cannot exceed one shipping container:

  1. product from a single line in a single processing run.
  2. product harvested from a single aquaculture pond (i.e. prawns harvested from separate ponds are considered separate populations for the purposes of defining a batch).
  3. one species of prawn wild caught during one continuous fishing period.

Please note: The competent authority (CA) is responsible for determining the batch definition applicable to the consignment. Please refer to the government health certificate supplied for each consignment for the batch definition applicable.

Compliance Based Intervention Scheme (CBIS)

The scheme rewards importers of products who demonstrate consistent compliance with Australia’s biosecurity requirements with risk-based inspection rates (applied at the line level). Compliant importers benefit from the CBIS through smoother clearance of goods at the border and reduced regulatory costs.

The department will assess the application and on the basis of that assessment may decide to grant an import permit subject to any conditions deemed necessary for safe importation, use and disposal of those products.
