Processed grain and seed products for human consumption

This case describes the requirements for the importation of processed grain and seed products for human consumption. The grain or seed must be made non-viable by processing. Processing includes cooked and frozen grains and seeds, textured vegetable proteins (e.g. tofu), vegan products (including cheese, sausages and yoghurt), flours, flakes, meal, meslin, bran, protein flour and grains and seeds that are puffed or exploded. Powdered plant products for human consumption

The case describes the requirements for the importation of powdered plant products for human consumption. Powdered plant products consist of dried and ground or granulated plant parts (including fruits, herbs, bark and roots). Human consumption includes uses such as food, supplements, complementary medicines, cosmetics or smoking. This case describes the requirements for the importation of seed for sowing products containing permitted seed species and an inert growing medium, paper/cardboard or organic growing medium. Examples of seed for sowing products containing organic growing medium are biomats, non-transparent seed tape, sprout pencil and seed egglings.

Dried herb products not for human consumption

This case describes the requirements for the importation of dried herb products. Importation is permitted for all end uses other than for human consumption, animal foods, fertilisers, growing purposes, bioremediation and veterinary therapeutic use. Products may be individual leaves (not bunches of leaves attached to the stem/branch/vine), flowers (not on stems), stems, roots, gums, resins, rhizomes, spices and crushed nut shells. These must be thoroughly dried, broken into small pieces and not capable of propagation. This case does not apply to, fruit or bark.
