Biodegradable plant pots and urns

This case describes the requirements for the importation of biodegradable plant pots for use as fertiliser and biodegradable urns for human, or animal, remains.For coir fibre liners for hanging baskets, please see the Permitted plant fibres case.For urns containing human remains or animal remains, please see the Human remains or Cremated animal remains case.For coir peat plugs, inserts and pots for use as a growing medium, please see the Coir peat case.These biodegradable plant products can be made from rice husks, sphagnum, wood pulp and other plant materials that pose a biosecurity risk. Biodegradable plant products must be manufactured in a way that will reduce the biosecurity risk or be subject to mandatory treatment.These conditions do not apply to urns made from bioplastics such as starch derivatives or cellulose.

Cacti for use as nursery stock Alerts

This case describes the requirements for the importation of species of cacti plants and tissue cultures. All plant material requires an import permit prior to importation into Australian territory. Tissue cultures must be free of visible contamination, require phytosanitary certification and inspection prior to release from biosecurity control. Other plant material will require an inspection, fumigation and a minimum 3 months growth period in quarantine at an approved arrangement site for visual disease screening. Unrooted grafted cacti plants from Korea may be imported under an approved system that requires inspection and treatment overseas, to ensure freedom from pathogens and pests of concern. Following inspection in Australia these cacti may be released from biosecurity control without the need for post entry quarantine.

Dried herbs for human consumption Alerts

This case describes the requirements for the importation of dried herbs. Importation is permitted for human consumption and human therapeutics. This includes pods without seeds, citrus peel, leaves, flowers, stems, roots, gums, resins, rhizomes, spices and crushed nut shells that are thoroughly dried and not capable of propagation. Importation is permitted for all end uses other than for human consumption, animal foods, fertilisers or growing purposes. Products may contain ingredients such as leaves, flowers (not whole), stems, roots, gums, milled seed, resins, rhizomes, spices and crushed nut shells. These must be thoroughly dried, broken into small pieces and not capable of propagation. The case does not apply to unmilled seeds, fruit or bark.
