This case describes the requirements for the importation of coir peat for use in the horticulture industry as a growth medium, mulch or fertiliser. Coir peat is derived from the fibrous husk of the coconut and is typically imported in compressed bricks or bales. This case also describes conditions for coir peat products with additives, these commodities present a different risk and require an import permit.

Ricinus communis seed for sowing Alerts

This case describes the requirements for the importation of Ricinus communis seed. Note: The genus Ricinus is considered to be monotypic, with Ricinus communis being the only species. Previously described species within the genus Ricinus have been transferred to other genera or grouped within R. communis. R. communis may be imported under the following conditions: All seed for sowing is required to have an import permit prior to importation into Australian territory. All seed must be free of contamination when inspected on arrival. The seed must be packaged in clean, new packaging with the botanical name clearly identified. All seed must be grown in an approved post entry quarantine facility in Australian territory, from seedling emergence to seed harvest, where the material will be visually screened for disease. Sphagnum moss Changes

This case describes the requirements for the importation of sphagnum moss for all uses other than animal foods, fertilisers or for growing purposes. Sphagnum moss is dried plant material used in the floral industry and nurseries to make wreaths, basket liners, water retention matting or for use in seed raising mixes. Sphagnum liquid waste absorbent is used for the cleanup of hazardous waste. The product consists of processed and dehydrated sphagnum moss that is often imported bagged, baled or as booms.

This case describes the requirements for the importation of microorganisms and infectious agents for in vitro use or in vivo use in laboratory organisms.
