Zantedeschia spp. for use as nursery stock

This case describes the requirements for the importation of species of Zantedeschia plants, tissue culture and tubers. All plant material requires an import permit prior to importation into Australian territory. Tissue cultures must be free of visible contamination, and require phytosanitary certification and inspection prior to release from biosecurity control. Other plant material will require inspection, fumigation and a minimum 3 months growth period in quarantine at an approved arrangement site for visual disease screening. Dormant Zantedeschia tubers from approved countries may be imported under an approved system that requires inspection overseas to verify freedom from pathogens of concern. Tubers must be treated for insects, and following inspection and treatment, may be released from biosecurity control without the need for post entry quarantine. This case includes human material for human therapeutic use e.g. organs for transplant, blood products for transfusions. This case may include, but is not limited to, complementary medicines (including Chinese medicines) containing animal and/or microbial derived material.

This case describes the requirements for the importation of soil and articles containing soil. Soils are the unconsolidated material on the earth’s surface. They are aggregates of minerals, water, decomposed animal and plant material and micro-organisms. Other commodities that may be covered by this classification (soil and articles containing soil) are subsoil, aquatic or marine soil, sediments, silt and soil-like samples without evidence of origin.

Herbarium specimens

This case describes the requirements for the importation of non-infected and infected herbarium specimens of vascular plants, and non-vascular plants and fungi (including algae, lichens, mosses, liverworts and hornworts). Herbarium specimens are processed (e.g. dried, mounted, preserved) plant samples that are labelled with their collection data. These goods are for use in herbarium reference collections, for example, institutes listed in the Index Herbariorum. The department strongly encourages importers of herbarium specimens to transport the specimens via courier. This allows importers to monitor the movement and receipt of the goods throughout the import pathway, which may not be possible through the mail system.

Meals ready to eat (MREs) for human consumption

This case describes the requirements for the importation of meals ready to eat (MREs) for human consumption only. MREs include shelf stable ready to eat meals for the personal use of international military and rescue, shelf stable ready to eat meals returning with the Australian defence forces or government sponsored rescue taskforces from overseas operations, and shelf stable ready to eat meals for commercial sale.
