Coir peat

Coir peat is derived from the fibrous husk of the coconut and is typically imported in compressed bricks or bales. This case also describes conditions for coir peat products with additives, these commodities present a different risk and require an import permit.

Biodegradable plant pots and urns

This case describes the requirements for the importation of biodegradable plant pots for use as fertiliser and biodegradable urns for human, or animal, remains. For coir fibre liners for hanging baskets, please see the Permitted plant fibres case.For urns containing human remains or animal remains, please see the Human remains or Cremated animal remains case. These biodegradable plant products can be made from rice husks, coir peat, sphagnum, wood pulp and other plant materials that pose a biosecurity risk. Biodegradable plant products must be manufactured in a way that will reduce the biosecurity risk or be subject to mandatory treatment. These conditions do not apply to urns made from bioplastics such as starch derivatives or cellulose.

This may include specimens such as phytoplankton, zooplankton, preserved or fixed insects and arachnids, dead or preserved bees and preserved or fixed animal or human specimens, including specimens in resin. Natural fibres (and their derivatives) of animal origin

This case describes the requirements for the importation of animal hair/fibre, bristles, wool, wool grease and silk for all end uses other than for animal consumption, veterinary therapeutics, fertiliser, bioremedial or growing purposes. This case also includes products made from or containing derivatives of wool grease (e.g. lanolin) and silkworm cocoons (not containing the pupae).
