Please note that this case applies to noodles derived from plant material only and noodles containing egg. If you are importing a composite product that includes ingredients other than egg, you must search BICON for each individual ingredient to determine the conditions that apply. This case covers waste that may be imported for laboratory analysis, treatment and/or disposal. Waste covered by this case includes general household waste, food or kitchen waste, garden waste, farm waste, medical or clinical waste (e.g. human cytotoxic waste), sewage, wash water waste (e.g. used to clean farm, veterinary or mining equipment or machinery), waste water or by-products from breaking down organic material.

Ship or aircraft stores for transhipment

This case describes the requirements to allow the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) to monitor the content, and control the movement, of transhipped ship’s stores and aircraft stores for use on cruise and commercial vessels. Note: This case does not apply to ship/aircraft spares. Ship/aircraft spares are defined as “parts or accessories that are required for the maintenance or general operation of a vessel”. Examples of ship/aircraft spares include engines or engine components, seals, bearings, lubricants, new filters, o-rings etc. These items are generally not derived from, nor contain, animal or plant products. However, if ship/aircraft spares do contain components of biosecurity or are used spare parts, then consignments must be referred to the department for assessment.

Maize for human consumption or processing Alerts

This case describes the requirements for import of bagged and containerised whole raw maize kernels, corn seeds, maize grits, broken corn and degermed maize kernels for human consumption or further processing into either food such as popped corns or for alcohol production. The goods must be commercially prepared and packaged. Maize grits or broken corn may range in size from granules less than 3mm or degermed kernels or granules greater than 3mm, but less than full kernels. Highly processed maize product such as corn flour should be assessed under Processed grain and seed products for human consumption. Corn cob articles being imported not for human consumption should be assessed under the Permitted plant fibres BICON case.

Poppy straw (Papaver somniferum) for processing

This case describes the requirements for the importation of dried poppy straw (Papaver somniferum) for processing. The term poppy straw is used to indicate dried deseeded capsules with 10-20 cm of stem. Material will require mandatory treatment to mitigate biosecurity risks associated with this commodity, or be processed in accordance with approved methods. This case describes the requirements for the importation of soil and articles containing soil. Soils are the unconsolidated material on the earth’s surface. They are aggregates of minerals, water, decomposed animal and plant material and micro-organisms. Other commodities that may be covered by this classification (soil and articles containing soil) are subsoil, aquatic or marine soil, sediments, silt and soil-like samples without evidence of origin.
