Sphagnum moss

This case describes the requirements for the importation of sphagnum moss for all uses other than animal foods, fertilisers or for growing purposes. Sphagnum moss is dried plant material used in the floral industry and nurseries to make wreaths, basket liners, water retention matting or for use in seed raising mixes. Sphagnum liquid waste absorbent is used for the cleanup of hazardous waste. The product consists of processed and dehydrated sphagnum moss that is often imported bagged, baled or as booms.

Summary of import conditionsWarning: The following is a summary only; all consignments must meet the full import conditions contained in this BICON case.All Cannabis spp. nursery stock requires an import permit prior to importation into Australia.Tissue cultures require phytosanitary certification, inspection and a minimum 3 month growth period in the Australian government’s post-entry quarantine facility for disease screening.Unrooted and rooted cuttings require phytosanitary certification, inspection, chemical dip and a minimum 3 months growth period in the Australian government’s post-entry quarantine facility for disease screening.Importers may also require other permits from the Office of Drug Control, Department of Health, Therapeutic Goods Administration and local and/or state governments.
