This case describes the requirements for the importation of microorganisms and infectious agents for in vitro use or in vivo use in laboratory organisms. Note that import conditions in this case are also applicable to primary derivatives e.g. antigens, proteins, genetic material. Secondary derivatives e.g. antibodies, are not permitted under these import conditions. This case also applies to the importation of department approved starter cultures for in vitro use or in vivo use in laboratory organisms. This case describes the requirements for the importation of pet food, pet food ingredients, and supplements for pets and companion animals. This includes goods which are intended for consumption by dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and horses (pets and performance animals) but does not include goods which are intended for consumption by production animals or food producing species (e.g. cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens). Goods may contain biological ingredients derived from animals, microbes (e.g. Saccharomyces), [e.g. fungi (including e.g. mushrooms)], plants, macroalgae (i.e. seaweed), and/or microalgae. Goods may be commercially prepared and packaged or may be imported in bulk for further processing in Australia i.e. to be included within a pet food product.
