Dried herbs for human consumption Alerts

This case describes the requirements for the importation of dried herbs. Importation is permitted for human consumption and human therapeutics. This includes pods without seeds, citrus peel, leaves, flowers, stems, roots, gums, resins, rhizomes, spices and crushed nut shells that are thoroughly dried and not capable of propagation. The case does not apply to seeds, fruit or bark. For pods with permitted seed and dried fruit, please use the Dried fruit BICON case. For permitted seed, please use the Raw seed BICON case. This case describes the requirements for the importation of dairy products. Dairy may include products such as cheese, butter, milk based infant formula, chocolate, lactose and its derivatives, clarified butter oil, ghee, milk products, colostrum, yoghurt, ice cream, cream, milk protein, casein and whey. Please note that this case only applies to the dairy component of composite products. If you are importing a composite product, you must search BICON for each individual ingredient to determine the conditions that apply.

Herbarium specimens Alerts

This case describes the requirements for the importation of non-infected and infected herbarium specimens of vascular plants, and non-vascular plants and fungi (including algae, lichens, mosses, liverworts and hornworts). Herbarium specimens are processed (e.g. dried, mounted, preserved) plant samples that are labelled with their collection data. These goods are for use in herbarium reference collections, for example, institutes listed in the Index Herbariorum. The department strongly encourages importers of herbarium specimens to transport the specimens via courier. This allows importers to monitor the movement and receipt of the goods throughout the import pathway, which may not be possible through the mail system.

Papaver somniferum for processing
