The case describes the requirements for the importation of processed banana and banana products for the purposes of human consumption and processing. This case includes banana and banana products that have been dried, boiled, cooked, fried or baked, banana flowers, frozen leaves or frozen products containing banana leaves, extracts or highly processed goods and banana flavours. Herbicides, insecticides, pesticides and other goods for environmental or industrial purposes

This case describes the requirements for the importation of herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, fertilisers, bioremediation products, enzymes and other goods for environmental or industrial purposes. Goods have an environmental purpose when they are imported for localised or unrestricted dispersal through the environment. Goods have an industrial purpose when they are imported to be used in manufacturing, construction or processing. Examples of goods with an industrial purpose include glues, waterproofing or ropemaking agents and mining compounds.

Aquaculture feed and aquatic meals

This case describes the import requirements for manufactured aquatic animal feeds. This includes aquatic animal and aquaculture feeds containing fish and crustacean meal. Maize for human consumption or processing

Effective 5 April 2024 to present

This case describes the requirements for import of bagged and containerised whole raw maize kernels, corn seeds, maize grits, broken corn and degermed maize kernels for human consumption or further processing into either food such as popped corns or for alcohol production. The goods must be commercially prepared and packaged. Maize grits or broken corn may range in size from granules less than 3mm or degermed kernels or granules greater than 3mm, but less than full kernels. Highly processed maize product such as corn flour should be assessed under Processed grain and seed products for human consumption. Corn cob articles being imported not for human consumption should be assessed under the Permitted plant fibres BICON case.

Returning Australian products Changes

Effective 8 April 2024 to present

This case describes the requirements for the importation of goods returning to Australia. Goods covered by this case contain or consist of ingredients of plant, microbial or animal (excluding live animals) origin. Returning goods refers to goods originating from Australia that have been exported and are now being imported back into the country. This case also covers goods that have been shipped between two Australian ports but have exited and then re-entered Australian territory en route (e.g. trans-shipped goods). The goods must not have been altered while offshore. If any growing, processing or manufacturing occurs offshore that changes the nature of the product, the goods will then be considered a ‘new product’ rather than of Australian origin and you must search BICON to determine the conditions that apply.

Veterinary therapeutics and veterinary therapeutic ingredients

This case describes the requirements to import goods for veterinary therapeutic use (including vaccines, therapeutic products, medicines, and products for use in assisted reproductive technologies). This case must also be used for ingredients for use in veterinary therapeutic manufacturing. Veterinary therapeutic goods may come in forms such as tablets, pills, capsules, powders or liquids. Veterinary therapeutic goods are used to: prevent, diagnose, cure or alleviate a disease or condition in animals, or prevent, diagnose, cure or alleviate an infestation of animals by a pest, or cure or alleviate an injury suffered by animals, or influence, inhibit or modify a physiological process associated with a disease or condition in animals.
