Permitted plant fibres

This case describes the requirements for the importation of the majority of articles made out of plant fibres for all uses other than as animal foods, fertilisers, landscaping or for growing. Biodegradable plant pots and urns

This case describes the requirements for the importation of biodegradable plant pots for use as fertiliser and biodegradable urns for human, or animal, remains.For coir fibre liners for hanging baskets, please see the Permitted plant fibres case.For urns containing human remains or animal remains, please see the Human remains or Cremated animal remains case.For coir peat plugs, inserts and pots for use as a growing medium, please see the Coir peat case.These biodegradable plant products can be made from rice husks, sphagnum, wood pulp and other plant materials that pose a biosecurity risk. Biodegradable plant products must be manufactured in a way that will reduce the biosecurity risk or be subject to mandatory treatment.These conditions do not apply to urns made from bioplastics such as starch derivatives or cellulose.

Dried herb products not for human consumption

This case describes the requirements for the importation of dried herb products. Importation is permitted for all end uses other than for human consumption, animal foods, fertilisers, growing purposes, bioremediation and veterinary therapeutic use. Products may be individual leaves (not bunches of leaves attached to the stem/branch/vine), flowers (not on stems), stems, roots, gums, resins, rhizomes, spices and crushed nut shells. These must be thoroughly dried, broken into small pieces and not capable of propagation. This case does not apply to, fruit or bark. Cacti for use as nursery stock

This case describes the requirements for the importation of species of cacti plants and tissue cultures. All plant material requires an import permit prior to importation into Australian territory. Tissue cultures must have root or callus development, be free of visible contamination, require phytosanitary certification and inspection prior to release from biosecurity control. Other plant material will require an inspection, fumigation and a minimum 3 months growth period in quarantine at an approved arrangement site for visual disease screening. Unrooted grafted cacti plants from Korea may be imported under an approved system that requires inspection and treatment overseas, to ensure freedom from pathogens and pests of concern. Following inspection in Australia these cacti may be released from biosecurity control without the need for post entry quarantine.

Powdered plant products consist of dried and ground or granulated plant parts (including fruits, herbs, bark and roots). Human consumption includes uses such as food, supplements, complementary medicines, cosmetics or smoking. Zantedeschia spp. for use as nursery stock

This case describes the requirements for the importation of species of Zantedeschia plants, tissue culture and tubers. All plant material requires an import permit prior to importation into Australian territory. Tissue cultures must have root or callus development, be free of visible contamination, and require phytosanitary certification and inspection prior to release from biosecurity control. Other plant material will require inspection, fumigation and a minimum 3 months growth period in quarantine at an approved arrangement site for visual disease screening. Dormant Zantedeschia tubers from approved countries may be imported under an approved system that requires inspection overseas to verify freedom from pathogens of concern. Tubers must be treated for insects, and following inspection and treatment, may be released from biosecurity control without the need for post entry quarantine.
