This case describes the requirements for the importation of uncanned or unretorted meat for human consumption only. Uncanned or unretorted meat includes products such as meat floss, pig meat, poultry meat, bovine meat, crocodile meat and ham. For the import of fish (including elasmobranchs/sharks), molluscs and crustaceans (including prawns), please refer to the BICON case Seafood (excluding finfish). For the import of cnidarians, echinoderms and tunicates, please refer to the BICON case Cnidarians, echinoderms and tunicates. For the import of meat jerky and biltong, please refer to the BICON case Jerky. Please note that this case only applies to the meat component of composite products. If you are importing a composite product, you must search BICON for each individual ingredient to determine the conditions that apply.

Meat based flavours for human consumption

This case describes the requirements for the importation of meat based flavours for human consumption only. Meat based flavours are derived from meat but contain no discernible pieces of meat. Meat based flavours include soups, curry mixes, stock cubes and noodle flavours. This case applies to importation of heat processed meat based flavours containing meat derived from mammals, birds or reptiles. This case does not include meat derived from fish (including elasmobranchs/sharks), crustaceans (including prawns), molluscs or aquatic animals, for these products, please search for the relevant BICON case. This case does not include pork crackling and/or rind products, for these products, please refer to the BICON case Uncanned or unretorted meat. Please note that this case only applies to the meat based flavour component of composite products.
