-
The recommended biosecurity management measures are in the policy advice for poppy straw and pellets.
-
It is the importer's responsibility to identify and to ensure it has complied with all requirements of any other regulatory and advisory bodies prior to and after importation.
Importers may also require other permits from the Office of Drug Control, Department of Health, Therapeutic Goods Administration, local and/or state governments.
-
Prior to the importation of goods into Australian territory, a valid import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture is required.
An import permit may be obtained by submitting an import permit application to the department (if viewed online, use the 'Apply Now' button at the bottom of this page).
-
For the biosecurity risks associated with the commodity, the following biosecurity management measures are required:
heat treatment at 85 °C for 48 hours or 95 °C for 24 hours (offshore or onshore), or
gamma irradiation at 25 kGray (onshore), or
steam pelleting (offshore).
-
For consignments exported from Khapra beetle countries, mandatory methyl bromide fumigation is required at 80 gms for 72 hours at 21 °C. For consignments exported from non-Khapra beetle countries, an additional declaration to state that the country of origin is a Khapra beetle free country is required.
