Case: Low risk genetic material for in vitro and/or in vivo use in plants and/or laboratory organisms Effective 08 Aug 2022 to 01 Sep 2022

This case contains a number of different import scenarios with associated import conditions. You can refine the import scenarios by answering the questions below.

Which of the following best describes the goods?

Low risk genetic material is genetic material that does not contain:

  1. Genetic material from infectious agents other than plant pathogens and those organisms listed in standard laboratory microorganisms and infectious agents list and approved vectors and microorganisms for in vivo use in plants list,
  2. A nucleic acid preparation from an infected plant or from a plant with symptoms of disease or that is suspected to be infected,
  3. Genetic material containing more than 50% of a viroid genome,
  4. Genetic material containing a complete unmodified naturally occurring plasmid,
  5. Genetic material containing more than 50% of a plant virus genome segment or component.
  6. A synthetic equivalent of any of the above listed material

Genetic material may be cloned in the following laboratory microorganisms & vectors:

  1. Yeast and bacterial artificial chromosomes and vectors derived from bacteriophages and/or plasmids, or
  2. standard laboratory microorganisms as listed here, or
  3. approved vectors and microorganisms for in vivo use in plants as listed here.
