Import Conditions

Import conditions define the biosecurity requirements which must be met for your import. Where import conditions have been developed, they will be listed below.

  1. A Department of Agriculture import permit is not required.

  2. Conditions of Administration

    1. It is the importer’s responsibility to provide all evidence required to demonstrate that the goods meet the import conditions.
      All required documentation must accompany each consignment and must be valid at the time the cargo is landed.

    2. In order to facilitate clearance of mail shipments, all documentation, including the import permit (or number) if required, should be securely attached to the outside of the package and marked ‘Attention Quarantine’.

    3. Documents must be provided with each consignment which:

      3.1. identify the consignment e.g. entry number.

      3.2. identify all goods being imported as part of this consignment e.g. invoice or waybill or importer’s manifest.

      3.3. describe the goods being imported (where not clear). Example 1: Product XRab = Purified protein derived from rabbits. Example 2: Product AX = Synthetic antibiotic. Example 3: Comte = Cheese.

    4. Consignments that do not meet the import conditions will remain under the department’s control pending export or destruction.

    Information

    It is the importer’s responsibility to provide any additional information which is requested in order to demonstrate that the import permit covers all goods being imported.

  4. The goods must be synthetic.

    To demonstrate compliance with this requirement you must present the following on a Manufacturer's declaration, Supplier declaration, Invoice or Product label:
    1. A statement that the product contains only ingredients of synthetic origin, or

    2. A statement that the product does not contain any animal, microbial or plant derived ingredients.

    This declaration is not required to be consignment specific provided that the declaration makes a clear reference to the product name.

  5. Under the Quarantine Service Fees Determination 2005, fees are payable to the Department of Agriculture for all services. A list of all quarantine & export fees is available on the Department of Agriculture's website.

  7. Warnings and Information Notices
    Warning

    Containers, timber packing, pallets or dunnage associated with the consignment will be subject to inspection and treatment on arrival, unless certified as having been treated by a Department of Agriculture approved method.

    All documentation presented to the Department to assist in determining the level of biosecurity risk posed by transportation pathways and packaging must also meet the requirements of the non-commodity case.
