Import Conditions
Import conditions define the biosecurity requirements which must be met for your import. Where import conditions have been developed, they will be listed below.
This commodity has been included in the Automatic Entry Processing for Commodities (AEPCOMM) approved arrangement (AA). Accredited persons must refer to the onshore outcomes to determine if the consignment is in scope for the AA. Further information about the AEPCOMM AA is available in the Class 19.2 Requirements document.
For goods that do not meet the import conditions of this commodity case, importers may wish to refer to the following BICON cases:
- Bioremediation products
- Dairy
- Test kits
- Enzymes
- Laboratory material
- Microorganisms and infectious agents (and derivatives)
- Pet food, pet food ingredients, and supplements for companion animals
- Protein powders and body building supplements for human consumption
- Starter cultures (and derivatives)
- Stockfeed, stockfeed ingredients and stockfeed additives
- Synthetic material
- Veterinary therapeutics and medicines
Fatty acids (e.g. docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA)) are considered organic acids and may be imported under the import conditions in this commodity case. Including fatty acids derived from microalgae.
For the import of all other microalgae and microalgae products please review the BICON case for Microalgae. Microalgae are unicellular photosynthetic microorganisms, living in saline or freshwater. Microalgae are not plants or plant derivatives.
Import conditions prior to arrival in Australian territory

These import conditions cover the importation of highly refined organic chemicals and substances as listed in the List of Highly refined organic chemicals and substances.

A Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry import permit is not required.

To demonstrate compliance with this requirement you must present the following on a Product label, Invoice, Manufacturer's declaration, Exporter's declaration or Supplier's declaration:
The goods must meet biosecurity requirements.

A statement that the product does not contain ingredients of animal, plant or microbial origin, other than highly processed and purified <<name of ingredient/s>> as listed in the List of Highly refined organic chemicals and substances.

Details of a full list of ingredients totalling 100%.

Each consignment of goods must be packed in clean and new packaging.
International (e.g.International Air Transport Association ) and domestic requirements concerning the safe handling, transport and labelling of biological material
AS/NZS 2243 Safety in Laboratories standards
Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) requirements.
State and Territory Departments of Health, and the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).
Where applicable, the importer or end user must comply with:

These goods or any derivatives must not be distributed, sold or used for:
- animal consumption, or
- environmental purposes (including use as bioremediation product or fertiliser), or
- veterinary therapeutics.

Commercial administrative conditions
Documents must be provided with each consignment which:- identify the consignment (if non-personal) e.g. entry number
- identify all goods being imported as part of this consignment e.g. invoice or waybill or importer’s manifest
- describe the goods being imported (where not clear).
e.g. 1: Product XRab = Purified protein derived from rabbits
e.g. 2: Product AX = Synthetic antibiotic
e.g. 3: Comte = Cheese.

Under the Biosecurity Charges Imposition (General) Regulation 2016 and Chapter 9, Part 2 of the Biosecurity Regulation 2016, fees are payable to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry for all services. Detail on how the department applies fees and levies may be found in the Charging guidelines.

In addition to the conditions for the goods being imported, non-commodity concerns must be assessed including container cleanliness, packaging and destination concerns, and may be subject to inspection and treatment on arrival.
