Import Conditions

Import conditions define the biosecurity requirements which must be met for your import. Where import conditions have been developed, they will be listed below.

  1. This commodity cannot currently be imported into Australia in the circumstances you’ve specified.

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment facilitates the import of goods into Australian territory by applying import conditions that manage biosecurity risks.

The department has not developed import conditions to manage the biosecurity risks for this specific commodity and situation. This commodity and situation may pose a biosecurity risk to Australia. Import will not be permitted until the department has assessed the associated biosecurity risks and developed import conditions that manage those risks.

Depending on the commodity and circumstances, the department’s biosecurity risk assessment process can include an evaluation of an exporting country’s animal health status, and its animal production, inspection and certification systems. The government competent authority of the exporting country may lodge an official market access request directly with the department to initiate this process.

Goods arriving in Australian territory that do not meet the import conditions may be exported or disposed.

  2. To receive advice on the development of import conditions of interest to you, please register as a stakeholder by phone on 1800 900 090 or through the department’s stakeholder register.

For further information, please contact the Client Contact Group Canberra, or go to: http://www.agriculture.gov.au/biosecurity.
