Onshore Outcomes

  1. Present all documentation

The importer or nominated agent must present all required documentation to the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources as part of the import procedure.

AA Site: 20.0 - Department of Agriculture and Water Resources Regional Office
  2. Inspection

The seed is subject to an inspection by a biosecurity officer.

AA Site: 20.0 - Department of Agriculture and Water Resources Regional Office
  3. Treatment

The goods require treatment with methyl bromide fumigation at 32 g/m³ for 3 hours at 21°C or above at normal atmospheric pressure (NAP).

Department treatment dosages must be based on the anticipated minimum ambient temperature that the commodities inside the fumigation enclosure will experience during the fumigation period. Where the temperature is expected to fall below 21ºC, the dosage of fumigant must be compensated1 in accordance with department requirements.

For each 5ºC (or part of 5ºC) the temperature is expected to fall below 21ºC, 8 g/m³ must be added to the dosage rate, unless otherwise specified by the department. It is the minimum temperature during the course of the fumigation that is to be used for the calculation of the dose. Methyl bromide fumigation for quarantine purposes is not permitted if the ambient minimum temperature falls below 10ºC.

  4. Warnings and Information Notices
    Information

Fumigations must conform with the AFAS Methyl bromide fumigation standard.

    Warning

The commodity must be suitable for methyl bromide fumigation. If there is concern that a commodity may be adversely affected by methyl bromide, importers, exporters and fumigators should seek expert advice (outside of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources) regarding its effects, or conduct tests on the commodity.

    Information 1

Using the dosage of 32 g/m³ for a 3 hour exposure period, the dosage:

    1. at 21°C and above is 32 g/m³

    2. between 16°C and 20.9°C is 40 g/m³

    3. between 11°C and 15.9°C is 48 g/m³

    4. between 10°C and 10.9°C is 56 g/m³

The department does not allow dosage compensation where the ambient temperature is above 21ºC or below 10ºC unless otherwise specified.

  5. Movement

The goods are to be moved directly to nominated post entry quarantine facility for disease screening until released from biosecurity control.

AA Sites: 6.1 - Closed biosecurity facilities for medium risk Nursery Stock
20.0 - Department of Agriculture and Water Resources Regional Office
  6. Post entry quarantine

All Cocos spp. seed must be grown in a closed quarantine facility for a minimum of 6 months for disease screening.

During growth in closed quarantine plants must be inspected at the following 3 stages of growth:

    1. seedling emergence

    2. halfway through the growing period

    3. at the end of the 6 months quarantine period and prior to removal of the plants from the closed quarantine facility to the quarantine approved open quarantine area.

If the plants that have been screened and found to be free of disease symptoms, transfer to an open quarantine area for a minimum of 18 months growth. Plants must be visually inspected by a biosecurity officer for any disease symptoms.
