Present all documentation
The importer or nominated agent must present all required documentation to the Department of Agriculture as part of the import procedure.

Inspection
The seed is subject to an inspection by a biosecurity officer.

Movement
The goods are to be moved directly to nominated post entry quarantine facility for disease screening until released from quarantine.

Treatment
Prior to sowing, the seed must be:
soaked in water at ambient temperature for 4 hours, then
immersed in hot water at 52°C for 20 minutes and then dried, then
treated with an appropriate seed fungicide1 which contains the active ingredient metalaxyl (e.g. Ridomil®).

Post entry quarantine
The treated seed must be grown in closed quarantine for disease screening. Inspection is required at the following stages of growth:
seedling emergence
halfway through the growing period
heading and flowering
a final inspection of the harvested seed.

Release
The Department of Agriculture will release the goods once all of the biosecurity requirements have been met.

All treatments must be performed at a quarantine approved premises (QAP) by a biosecurity officer, by an authorised person under a Compliance Agreement with the department, or under the supervision of a biosecurity officer.

Fungicide must be applied as per the label instructions and all safety precautions must be followed as per the label instructions. Fungicides must be registered in Australia with the APVMA and must be used in accordance with their requirements.
