With the commencement of the new Biosecurity Act 2015 on 16 June 2016, importers are advised of changes to import conditions and permits. These changes include:
- an increased number of selected goods that can enter Australia without an import permit, when specified conditions are met
- a limited number of goods that will require an import permit where they have not previously.
Importers are reminded of the need for an import permit prior to the arrival of goods in Australia. If you intend to import goods into Australia you must comply with the new legislation. For further information about this reminder please refer to Industry Advice Notice Reminder: import permits required prior to arrival of goods.
For specific information on import conditions and permit requirements, please refer to the department’s Biosecurity Import Conditions Database (BICON).
